Escaping escapism...
I’m on the road again. Call it escaping, if you wish, but I’ll call it clearing my head.
Oh, wait... I talk about escaping in my journal, not here. Well, with a broken hand, writing is much more difficult than typing...
Anyway, it’s eerie how I always manage to find this clarity when I’m away from home. I liken it to “seeing the Matrix.” The trick, however, is to get my thoughts recorded before they recess back into my murky mind forever.
Sunday night, I was watching a popular television program when something snapped. I switched it off. I’m not emotionally invested in these characters (with the show in question, it’s a good idea NOT to invest in the characters). I realized I’m no longer invested in any of the characters of the show I watch.
So, maybe I no longer need to watch television. I kicked the habit cold turkey nearly a decade ago... on the upswing to the best time of my life. It’s time to make a return to that.
After all, if you spend more than two hours a week in front of the television. Your life is passing you by.
Besides, I don’t want to be that guy who’s legacy at his wake is, “He watched television.”
